Welcome to our New Maryland/Delaware Regional Coordinator

A Maryland native, Joe attended Villa Julie College, now Stevenson University, receiving a Bachelor’s in Film 2006. In 2009, after completing his Master’s in Counseling at Shippensburg University, Joe joined Towson University as a Residence Life Coordinator in the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Joe enjoys having the opportunity to help students grow and discover who they are as individuals and as leaders and also how much he gets to learn about himself while working with those students.

ACUHO-I Stars

Let Your Students Know About this Educational Opportunity:

Now is the time you can say "thank you" to some of your outstanding student staff members. Think about sending them to the ACUHO-I STARS College as a reward for their hard work and an opportunity to further build on a career in residence life. Give back to the future of our profession. Application deadline is Friday, April 8.

STARS College is an educational program for undergraduate students who are interested in a career in housing and residence life. STARS is held as a pre-conference workshop at the ACUHO-I Annual Conference and Exposition.

STARS College provides opportunities for participants to learn more about the field of housing and residence life as well as gain mentoring from experienced professionals.

RELI

Hello MACUHO!

The 14th annual Regional Entry-Level Institute (RELI) is scheduled for June 1 - 3 at Westfield State College (MA). Please share this exciting professional development opportunity with entry-level housing and residence life staff members (those with 0 – 3 years of professional work experience).

RELI provides entry-level staff members who are interested in moving up the career ladder with needed information on seven competencies (listed on the attached brochure). Participants will be assigned to a faculty mentor with whom they work closely during the Institute. The cost of the Institute is $250 which includes lodging, meals, and supplies. MACUHO provides 10 scholarships ($100 each) to the first 10 applicants who are accepted into the Institute. The application can be found on the MACUHO website. Only 28 participants are accepted each year (approximately half from MACUHO and half from NEACUHO). Last year, we received over 60 applications (from MACUHO & NEACUHO).

The deadline for submitting application materials is March 1, 2011. Please contact me if you have any questions.

MCPA Events

Register today for the Maryland College Personnel Association (MCPA) Fall Conference and ACPA East Coast Graduate Fair and Undergraduate Experience. The conference is Friday, November 5th from 8:30-5p. at Loyola University – Timonium.

We are excited to announce our keynote speaker; Congressman Elijah Cummings, Maryland’s 7th District Representative.

We are proudly partnering with the American College Personnel Association to showcase the East Coast Graduate Fair and undergraduate experience featuring keynote speaker Marcia Guenzler-Stevens. Our undergraduate experience features a case study competition with some amazing prizes as well as a focused, intentional undergraduate program track including a graduate student panel. If you are interested in representing your graduate program at our Graduate Fair, please contact Joshua Hiscock at Jhiscock@umd.edu.

Our annual MCPA Recognition Awards will be presented at the conference. Nominate your deserving colleagues and/or students today!

Something fun that you do outside of your job or something we should know about you:I love to go sailing and traveling; I’m currently planning on a trip to the west coast to enjoy sailing on the pacific!

Passion: I am most passionate about creating a safe and engaged community that empowers not only my residents but also my staff to advance to their highest potential.

Influence: I would have to credit Ms. Genyne Royal and Mr. John Lowney as my positive influences and mentors.

Summer: This summer I accepted an ACUHO-I Internship with Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. This experience was enriching both mentally and professionally. I developed the training modules for 4 different positions in their HRL department and at night enjoyed the "NOLA EXPERIENCE".

Outside: Outside of work I enjoy riding motorcycles. I have been riding for 5 years and have enjoyed every moment. I just sold my last street bike and plan on buying another one shortly.
